Effects of oils and solid fats on blood lipids: a systematic review and network meta-analysis

The innovative method of network meta-analysis allowed Schwingshackl et.al. to compare the effects of consuming different fats or oils on blood lipids, using data from 55 different intervention studies.

The statistical approach of network meta-analysis allows an indirect comparison between different fats and oils, even if they have never been compared in the same study.

In this network meta-analysis, the final ranking indicated that, solid fats like butter and lard are the worst choice for LDL-cholesterol, whereas seed oils like safflower-, rapeseed-, flaxseed-, and sunflower oil performed best."
